Rameshwaram sits on a narrow coastal island exposed to sea winds on both sides, so its climate swings more than inland Tamil Nadu cities. The most comfortable window for temple darshan, the 22 wells bath, and a full day out at Dhanushkodi is October to March, when daytime temperatures stay in a more manageable 24-30°C range.
The Ramanathaswamy Temple's major festival periods (including the Aadi and Thai festival months per the Tamil calendar) draw large pilgrim crowds. Darshan queues and the 22 wells bath take considerably longer, and hotel and cab availability tighten up — if your visit falls in one of these windows, book your vehicle and stay at least a couple of weeks ahead.
